Electricity Rates on the Rise
An article in Star News of Wilmington, NC revealed that residents of Southport will see a 10.3 percent increase in their electric rates in September as a result of increased energy costs for the city. The wholesale cost for electricity increased 14 percent Aug. 1 because of the increased cost of coal and nuclear power. The increase means a homeowner who usually pays $200 a month will be paying about $220 starting Sept. 1.
